Stepping Stone Plants is a small, one-man Lowcountry nursery. The man is Maxie Stone.
Maxie Stone is a retired military veteran who spent three decades serving his country before turning his attention full-time to something he'd loved his whole life: growing plants.
He started Stepping Stone Plants in 2016 with a simple idea: raise good, healthy plants the right way, giving each one the time and care it needs, and sell them direct to neighbors at the local farmer's market. No middlemen. No big-box markups. Just healthy plants and an honest conversation with the person who grew them.
Almost a decade later, the operation is still one man, one nursery, and the same approach. Every plant you'll find on the Stepping Stone table was started, tended, and brought up by Maxie himself.
Stepping Stone plants come up healthy because they're not rushed. They're acclimated to Lowcountry weather because they were raised in it. And if you've got a question about what'll thrive in your yard, the person you're talking to has the answer. He grew it.
Stepping Stone Plants doesn't have a storefront. The nursery sells exclusively at the farmer's markets in Moncks Corner and Summerville, with customers driving in from across the Lowcountry: Goose Creek, Charleston, and beyond.
